The coast is now clear for Lagos State governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu to contest for a second term in office after the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) passed a vote of confidence in him.
The GAC, which happens to be the highest decision making body of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, met on Monday at the State House, Marina where it approved a second term for Sanwo-Olu.
This brings to an end to speculations surrounding the governor’s re-election bid. There were strong feelers from within the Lagos APC that Sanwo-Olu might not get the nod to extend his stay in office. It would be recalled that a similar fate befell his predecessor, Akinwunmi Ambode who fell out of favour with the party structure and GAC members.
However, Sanwo-Olu appears to have survived the trial. With the formal endorsement of the Lagos APC, the governor can now obtain his Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms ahead of the gubernatorial elections billed to hold next year.
