Borno lawmaker faults FG’s amnesty programme for Boko Haram insurgents

The Senator representing Borno South Senatorial District, Ali Ndume, has faulted the Federal Government’s amnesty programme for repentant Boko Haram insurgents.

The ranking lawmaker stated this following report of a repentant Boko Haram member, who killed his father, stole his wealth and disappeared after reintegration.

Ndume alleged that most of the insurgents recently integrated into the community had gone back to their old ways.

He said the amnesty programme is unacceptable, and called on the government to stop it forthwith.

Speaking in a British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Hausa programme monitored in Kaduna on Wednesday, Ndume queried the rationale behind government investing hugely on repentant insurgents

He said rather than training Boko Haram that won’t appreciate it, those in the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps should be trained in various trades and vocations.
