Four suspected female suicide bombers believed to be members of Boko Haram killed several people, including a soldier, in coordinated attacks across different locations in Borno State.
According to a source familiar with the insurgents’ activities in the northeastern state, the first bombing occurred at a wedding ceremony in Mararaban Gwoza.
The second one took place at a security checkpoint, resulting in the deaths of a soldier and two civilians.
The third incident occurred at a shopping mall, and the fourth at a burial ground. These attacks occurred between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday in the same vicinity.
Borno State Commissioner of Police, Yusuf Lawal, confirmed the attacks, reporting six fatalities and approximately 15 injured individuals who were evacuated to hospitals for treatment.
The locations targeted in these incidents are known areas of operation for the Boko Haram faction led by Ali Ngulde.
The group has been overshadowed by its breakaway faction, Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP), since the death of its leader, Abubakar Shekau.
During Shekau’s leadership, the group frequently used female members and captives to carry out suicide bombings.
