The lifeless body of a man, yet to be identified, has been retrieved from the lagoon.
This was confirmed by the Head of Public Education at the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, Amodu Shakiru earlier today.
Speaking exclusively to The Punch, Shakiru shared a succinct statement, saying, “Body recovered dead from Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge. Further details will follow, please.”
The tragic incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday, when the man leaped into the lagoon, as reported by Blackboxnigeria.
In response, emergency teams immediately launched a comprehensive search and retrieval operation, focusing on bringing the individual’s remains to the surface.
Concurrently, law enforcement sealed off the vicinity to initiate a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Following the successful retrieval operation, the remains were carefully secured in bags by the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) and transported to the morgue.
The identity of the deceased remains unknown, and authorities are expected to release additional information as the investigation unfolds.
