Habeeb Ibrahim, a reporter with BlackBox Nigeria has been named among the 2025 Campus Journalism Fellows selected by the African Foundation for Young Media Professionals (AFYMP).
AFYMP is a prestigious organisation that recognises and supports media professionals in different categories.
This time, BlackBox Nigeria’s reporter is among the 16 outstanding student journalists across the continent.
The recognition came as a surprise to the journalist, who recounted learning about the honour through a friend and fellow nominee, Olaoluwa Esther.
“She walked up to me with a hug and said congratulations. I thought it was for the just-concluded test, so I asked her if that was the reason. But then she showed me a LinkedIn post with my name and photo listed among this year’s AFYMP fellows,” the reporter shared.
The fellowship, spearheaded by AFYMP Executive Director, Mr. Yinka Olaito, is designed to provide mentorship, capacity building, and networking opportunities to emerging campus journalists across Africa, empowering them to contribute meaningfully to the media space.
Expressing excitement and gratitude, Habeeb said, “Alhamdulillah for everything. I’m so happy to be part of this team and grateful for the privilege given to me.”
The selection adds another feather to the cap of BlackBox Nigeria, whose commitment to grooming young media talents continues to receive recognition within and beyond the country.
