Old stalls at the popular Sabo Market in Ikorodu were demolished earlier this morning by officials of the Lagos State Government.
BlackBox Nigeria reliably gathered that the stall owners got notifications just two weeks ago and have been approaching the State Government for resolution.
A source who is in the know about the arrangement revealed to BBN that the Akinwunmi Ambode-led Government promised to demolish the old stalls and rebuild it. But conclusion is yet to be reached as the tag price of the new structure is way out of the pocket of the common man in the market.
BBN also gathered that the old stall owners were at the State Secretariat on Wednesday, May 3rd and had a meeting with top government officials, including the Deputy Governor, Dr Idaya Adebule and a Commissioner.
On getting to their place of trade early this morning, they met bulldozers that were ready to pull down their shops, while the newly built ones were not touched.
Aggrieved stall owners disclosed to an eyewitness that the demolition is a betrayal on the part of the government as it was shocking to them to get to their stalls this morning and saw crumbles.
More details shortly…
