Be law abiding, shun cultism, LASU VC tells newly admitted part-time students

The Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello has charged the newly admitted students of the School of Part Time Studies to obey the institution’s rules and regulations, and to shun cultism.

Prof. Olatunji-Bello made the charge at the orientation programme organized for part-time freshmen, held on Friday, at the Aderemi Makanjuola Lecture Theatre in the University’s main campus, Ojo, Lagos.

The VC, who was represented by the Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Prof. Olasupo Akewushola, welcomed and congratulated the newly admitted students for joining the best State University in Nigeria.

She noted that LASU’s rating as the second best in Nigeria according to Times Higher Education (THE) world University rankings, culminated from the quality teaching, award-winning research works and robust service delivery.

Prof. Olatunji-Bello finally admonished the new students to shun cultism, indecent dressing, examination malpractices and all other social vices that may truncate their academic sojourn at the institution.

Earlier in his speech, the Director, Directorate of School of Part Time Studies, Prof. Dan – Oye Oguntola-Laguda disclosed that the orientation programme was the very first of its kind under the leadership of the 9th substantive Vice Chancellor of the University.

Prof. Laguda assured the students of the commitment and determination of the members of staff (teaching and non-teaching) towards ensuring that their primary objectives are excellently achieved.

He also appreciated the Vice Chancellor and other members of the University Management for their absolute and unwavering support for the Directorate.

The event also featured presentation of papers on different topics by seven guest speakers, which include; the University Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel Fanu (The System of Administrative Records in the University, Bursar; Mr. Said Babatunde Olayinka (Your Financial Details in the University), Librarian; Dr. Emmanuel Layi Adebayo (The University Library as the Nerve Centre of Academic Activities) and the Acting Dean, Students’ Affairs Division, Dr. Tajudeen Olumoko (Students Code of Conduct, Rules & Regulations).

Other guest speakers and topics were; Acting Director, Information, Communication Technology (DICT), Prof. ‘Toyin Enikuomehin (Rules guiding registration, examination and Roles of Information Technology in achieving high academic standard), Deputy Registrar, Counselling Unit, Dr. J.O Ayeni (Managing your career in the University) and Director, LASU Centre For Response and Prevention Of Sexual & Gender-Based Violence, Dr. Igot Ofem.
