Unknown to many, Nigerian businesswoman and billionaire, Mrs Folorunsho Alakija is actually not the richest African like it is widely acclaimed. Rather, the person who has consistently topped the chart of billionaire females in Africa is a certain Isabel dos Santos.
BlackBox Nigeria investigation shows that 43-year-old Isabel is the daughter of Angolan president, Jose Eduardo dos Santos who has been in charge since 1979.
Isabel is an investor whose business interest lies in telecommunications, media, oil, energy and most recently the banking industry.
According to Forbes, the mother of 3 is worth $3.4 Billion making her the 8th richest African just $100 Million behind Globacom boss, Mike Adenuga who comes in at 7.
In June, 2016, she was named the head of Sonagol, Angola’s leading oil firm, a development which sparked public outrage.
Although controversy has trailed her wealth which has continuously been linked her father who is Angola’s longtime president, Isabel has always been business minded even as a young lady. Reports claim she made her first earnings as a six year old selling chicken eggs. She would later go on to set up a garbage collection business which didn’t last anyway.
Over the years, Isabel dos Santos has grown to become an esteemed investor having businesses in Portugal and her native Angola.
She is married to Sindika Dokolo, a Congolese Art collector and businessman.
Nigeria’s Folorunsho Alakija also deservedly however sits on the billionaire table on the continent with a net worth of $1.7 Billion while ranking 13th in Africa, over $100Million richer than Forte Oil boss, Femi Otedola.
Folorunsho Alakija and Isabel dos Santos are the only female billionaires in Africa according to Forbes.
Business mogul, Aliko Dangote remains the richest man on the continent with $16.7Billion networth.
