The UK chapter of the BAT 2027 Network has dismissed remarks attributed to former Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, suggesting that moves to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 represent a “national consensus” rather than a northern conspiracy.
In a statement signed by its convener, Hamzat Jimoh, the group described Tambuwal’s assertion as a “personal projection” and “a misrepresentation of political reality,”
The group insist that Nigerians overwhelmingly endorsed Tinubu in the 2023 elections and remain supportive of his Renewed Hope Agenda.
The statement highlighted reforms under Tinubu’s administration, including the removal of fuel subsidies with targeted interventions such as a N200 billion SME loan fund, N1.5 trillion recapitalization of the Bank of Agriculture, clearance of a $7 billion forex backlog, and over N104 billion disbursed as student loans to about 600,000 beneficiaries nationwide.
It also cited the unprecedented rise of Nigeria’s foreign reserves to $41 billion, over 1,000km of newly built railway tracks, and sectoral reforms in education, healthcare, power, and security as evidence of progress.
Quoting the World Bank’s Chief Financial Officer, Anshula Kant, the group noted that global financial institutions have commended Nigeria’s economic strides since Tinubu took office.
“Contrary to Tambuwal’s claims, there is no national consensus to unseat the president. Rather, there is growing support for his transformative agenda,” Jimoh stated.
The group urged Tambuwal to focus on resolving internal crises within the PDP rather than engaging in “distractions and campaigns of calumny,” stressing that Tinubu remains committed to delivering results and will present his record to Nigerians at the appropriate time.
