LaLiga giants, FC Barcelona have announced Sergi Barjuan as their interim coach after the sack of Ronald Koeman.
Recall that the club relieved the 58-year-old as head coach following Wednesday’s 1-0 loss to Rayo Vallecano, their third defeat in their last four league games.
Barjuan, prior to his appointment as interim coach, was the head coach of Barcelona B — a position he still retains.
Meanwhile, the Blaugrana is already in talks with former player, Xavi Hernandez, who is expected to take over after the termination of his coaching contract with Qatari side Al-Sadd.
Football transfer journalist, Fabrizio Romano disclosed this in a tweet on Thursday.
He wrote, “Official and confirmed. Sergi Barjuan is the new Barcelona interim coach. Joan Laporta will introduce Sergi to the team today. ?? #FCB
“…waiting for Xavi Hernandez to be the new manager as soon as possible – once the agreement with Al-Saad will be completed”.
According to Marca, the former midfielder — whose current deal runs until 2022 — will meet with his current bosses on Thursday to see if he will be given the chance to join Barcelona as Ronald Koeman’s replacement.
