Ayodeji Rilwan Tinubu, one of the youngest contenders in the race for local government leadership in Lagos Mainland, has been officially cleared by the All Progressives Congress (APC) screening committee to contest in the party’s upcoming chairmanship primary elections.
Tinubu, 38, featured prominently on the APC screening result sheet for Lagos Mainland Central, emerging among the 11 successful aspirants.
With a performance score of 60%, his clearance signals a green light for a fresh political force determined to redefine grassroots governance.
A rising figure in Lagos politics, Tinubu has built a reputation as a youth advocate and policy strategist with a passion for innovation and inclusive development.
As previously profiled by BlackBox Nigeria, he has a track record that bridges political strategy, community engagement, and international exposure.
In 2022, Tinubu facilitated an international exchange program through which legislative members of Yaba LCDA visited the Suffolk County Council and Ipswich Borough Council in the United Kingdom.
The visit was aimed at fostering peer learning and boosting governance standards back home.
In recognition of his impact, the Yaba LCDA Legislative Council honored him with an “Exceptional and Visionary Leader” award in November 2024.
That same year, he was also named one of the “Top 100 Faces of Democracy in Nigeria,” a national recognition for his commitment to democratic values and civic empowerment.
Beyond accolades, Tinubu has played an advisory role to various political figures across Lagos Mainland, particularly in shaping youth policies and expanding digital governance frameworks.
His political ideology emphasizes participatory leadership, accountability, and socioeconomic development.
With the APC primaries approaching, Tinubu’s candidacy is gaining traction among youths, market associations, and political stakeholders who view him as a candidate capable of modernizing the local council and driving real change.
