The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has invited a traditional Chief in Ijebu Ode, Chief Rasheed Adeoye Adesanya Olisa, the Olu of Ijebuland area in Ijebu-Ode, for questioning over an alleged case of bribery and financial inducement.

According to an official invitation letter dated February 3, 2026, and issued by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, the police said the invitation is part of an ongoing investigation requiring clarification from the monarch.

The letter, signed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, DCP Gbenga Adeoye, stated that Chief Olisa is expected to report at the SCID office in Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Thursday, February 5, 2026, by 10:00 a.m. for an interview.

The police described the invitation as a “fact-finding” exercise, stressing that it is being carried out in line with the investigative powers granted to the Nigeria Police Force under Section 214 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and Section 4(a) of the Police Act, 2020.

The letter further noted that the monarch’s presence is required to aid the course of criminal justice delivery and fairness. It also clarified that the invited traditional ruler is free to attend the interview with his lawyer.

As of the time of filing this report, details of the alleged bribery and financial inducement have not been made public, and the palace has yet to issue an official response to the police invitation.

The Ogun State Police Command has maintained that the invitation does not amount to a declaration of guilt but is part of routine investigative procedures.
