The Management of New Telegram Newspaper received a shocker today as one of its promising and award winning journalist, Mojeed Alabi took to his Facebook page to bid working with the media firm farewell with immediate effect.
The recent recipient of the Nigeria Media Merit Awards (NMMA) held two weeks ago, while announcing his departure expressed how difficult it was to part ways with the media firm and that was why he had to do it via the social media.
“Good bye is always a very difficult thing to say to a good family. How could I have looked straight into the eyes of New Telegraph and say Good Bye?” Mojeed expressed.
While recounting his stay, he reeled out some of the giant strides he made alongside the organisation during his almost five years of working with the leading newspaper firm
“Within the last 4 years and 10 months that I have been a pioneer member of the family, the success stories have been mutually beneficial. As individuals we have grown and as a corporate entity we have dazed the old titles. Not less than 8 big media awards have been won by yours sincerely within the period. But would I have done this without the massive support of the management and staff of the company?” he recounted.
The award winning journalist showered praises on New Telegraph for the ground it has covered over the years despite the nations dwindling economy.
In his words “For a paper that came into the industry at a time of recession, New Telegraph Newspaper has shown the world that no obstacle can hinder the wheel of a determined rider. Just last night, we beat the established media houses including Punch Newspapers and The Nation Newspaper at the 2018 NMMA award with 12 trophies while the other 2 won 5 each.”
He further accredits his successes as a journalist to the healthy working environment he enjoyed at New Telegraph and noted that his departure is hugely based to widen his horizon and face new career challenges.
“But before I go, I must celebrate every member of the team, from cleaners, gatemen, graphic artists, admin staff, circulation team, advert department to editorial staff.” The ipost reads.
The member of the fourth estate of the realm also took out time to thank those that believed in his talent and offered him the opportunity to grow while expressing hopes for his new plans which he is yet to reveal come January.
“I must thank all editors and ultimately the MD/Editor-in-Chief- Funke Egbemode. I must begin by appreciating Mr. Bolaji Tunji, the pioneer MD who insisted I must join his team. I thank Mr. Gabriel Akinadewo who succeeded him, and Yemi Ajayi, and all the great people they have worked with.”
“I must commend all the editors and particularly my boss, Ayodele Ojo Samuel, his deputy, Geoffrey Ekenna who I have served diligently as “Chief of Staff,” and my direct boss and head of Education Desk, Mr. Kayode Olanrewaju.”
“To all my friends both within and outside the industry, colleagues, readers and supporters, I appreciate you all. I must thank the Icir Nigeria CEO, Mr. Dayo Aiyetan, ‘Fisayo Soyombo, Dapo Olorunyomi, Musikilu Mojeed and Idris Alooma Akinbajo. @Motunrayo Alaka and the entire @Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism, the @Nigerian Breweries, among others deserve mention.” He concluded.
