An autopsy report has revealed that Nigerian Afrofuji singer Afeez Adesina, popularly known as Destiny Boy, died from complications linked to drug toxicity, bringing new clarity to the circumstances surrounding his controversial death.

Findings from the autopsy showed that the 22-year-old had harmful levels of substances including tramadol and methamphetamine in his system, according to police disclosures.

Medical experts concluded that the cause of death was aspiration pneumonitis resulting from the ingestion of these toxic substances, indicating that the drugs triggered a fatal respiratory complication.

Destiny Boy died on January 17, 2026, in Ogun State, with his passing initially sparking widespread speculation after videos of his lifeless body circulated online.

Before the autopsy findings, family members had disclosed that the singer had been battling a long-term illness that caused seizures, while police launched a homicide investigation and arrested a suspect in connection with the case.

The Ogun State Police Command confirmed that the autopsy was conducted as part of ongoing investigations, with the case file forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution for further legal advice.

Destiny Boy rose to fame in 2019 after his Fuji-style cover of Davido’s hit song “If” went viral, earning him recognition as one of the emerging voices blending traditional Fuji with modern Afrobeats.

His death had drawn public attention and calls for transparency, with the release of the autopsy report now providing official insight into the medical cause while investigations into surrounding circumstances continue.

Authorities say further updates will depend on the outcome of legal and investigative processes still underway.
