Olamide, a Nigerian rapper, singer, and founder of YBNL Nation, has reportedly allowed his signee, Asake, to terminate his contract with the label.
As part of the agreement, Asake was granted ownership of the masters for all the songs he recorded under YBNL.
However, both parties will continue to share royalties on those songs for the original contract duration, which is at least 10 years.
Olamide reportedly said, “I didn’t create YBNL to make money. I created it to help young people grow. If any artist wants to leave, they are free. Asake has done his part, and I’m proud of him.”
Blackbox Nigeria earlier reported that Asake deleted all his posts on Instagram, leaving only the poster for his album, Lunguboy.
He also removed all references to YBNL Nation and Empire Music from his Instagram bio, further signaling the end of his association with the labels.
The contract termination reportedly occurred shortly after the release of Lunguboy.
Sources, including videowheelstv on instagram, claim that Olamide presented a new contract to Asake after the original one ended, but the singer declined to sign it.
