‘There is Fire on the Mountain’ Asa sings, as Buhari unveils NNPC Limited

President Muhammadu Buhari has unveiled Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) Limited.

This development means that the oil firm has transformed from a state-run entity to a commercial venture with limited shares, coming weeks after the corporation transitioned into a company whose operations will be regulated by the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA).

The official unveiling took place at Presidential Banquet Hall in Abuja, on Tuesday.

It was witnessed by dignitaries such as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila; Senate President, Ahmad Lawan; Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva; NNPC CEO, Mele Kyar; NNPC Board Chairman, Margery Chuba Okadigbo.

Arguably the biggest highlight from the event was the appearance of Nigerian singer, Bukola Elemide, professionally known as Aṣa, who performed her hit song, “Fire On The Mountain”.

Originally released in 2007, the socially-conscious track tells a story of a nation plagued with problems and the lackadaisical attitude of citizens and the leadership class. And fifteen years later, the classic remains relevant and relatable.
