The Nigerian Army has released the official portrait of the 25th Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, with a directive to the media and members of the public to immediately update their archives and ensure the correct image is used in future publications.
In a statement issued on Tuesday via its official communication channels, the Army said the move is aimed at standardising references to the Chief of Army Staff and preventing the continued use of outdated photographs taken during his earlier rank.
“You are kindly requested to update your media archives accordingly and refrain from using previous photographs, particularly those depicting the Chief of Army Staff with the rank of Major General, in subsequent publications,” the statement read.
The Army also noted that a previously circulated portrait of the COAS should no longer be used, urging journalists and media platforms to discard it to maintain accuracy and uniformity across all channels.
“Additionally, you are to disregard the initial portrait issued via this handle,” the statement added.
The military commended the media for its professionalism and support in advancing national security through accurate reporting, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the press.
Lieutenant General Shaibu, who assumed office after a military shake-up by president Tinubu, has since led several key strategic operations across the country.
The newly issued portrait formalises his current rank and office, offering the public and stakeholders a proper visual reference of Nigeria’s top Army officer.
