Apple has reportedly added support for Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa, the three major languages spoken in Nigeria, to its iOS keyboard in the latest iOS 18.3 update.
The new feature, which includes predictive text and autocorrect functionalities, is expected to improve communication for millions of native speakers.
Nigeria is home to over 520 languages, making it one of the most linguistically diverse countries in the world. While English serves as the official language, Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa are the most widely spoken.
If confirmed, this development would mark a significant step in promoting Nigeria’s linguistic heritage in digital technology.
The update is expected to enhance communication for Nigerian users and boost the use of local languages in digital spaces. Apple’s decision aligns with efforts by other tech companies to integrate African languages into their platforms.
