APC’s Oyebanji wins Ekiti guber poll by landslide

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Biodun Oyebanji has emerged winner of the Ekiti governorship election.

Oyebanji, a former Secretary to the State Government, won 15 out of the 16 Local Government Areas in the state.

The returning officer for the poll, Kayode Oyebode announced the final results in the early hours of Sunday after hours of collation of votes.

The APC candidate polled 187,057 votes to emerge Ekiti governor-elect after beating two main challengers: Segun Oni of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) who had 82,211 votes, and Bisi Kolawole of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who secured 67,457 votes.

“Oyebanji, having scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared the winner and returned elected as the governor-elect of Ekiti State,” the returning officer said.

The 54-year-old Oyebanji will now succeed his former boss, the outgoing governor of the state, Kayode Fayemi who bows out of office in October.
