The All Progressives Congress (APC), Lagos State, has dragged Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the forthcoming Lagos East Senatorial District bye-election, Babatunde Gbadamosi before a Federal High Court, Ikoyi for alleged perjury and falsification of certificates.
The injunction, as seen by BlackBox Nigeria, with suit NO: FHC/L/CS/1659/2020 dated 23rd November 2020, has the PDP Candidate and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the 1st and 2nd defendants respectively.
The APC claimed Babatunde Gbadamosi falsified his WAEC certificate dated June 1985 which was submitted to INEC in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act. It further stated the 1st defendant sat for 5 subjects during the examination. Also, he claimed to have attended Lagos State University after obtaining his WAEC certificate.
Upon its findings to verify the authenticity of the certificates presented by Gbadamosi, the APC said it discovered that the PDP candidate sat for eight subjects whereas on the certificate submitted to INEC, five subjects were recorded. It said the results and subjects stated on the certificate presented by the PDP candidate are materially different from the ones contained on the official website of WAEC. An act that amounts to forgery.
Consequently, the APC is seeking for a court order disqualifying Babatunde Gbadamosi from contesting the December 5 Lagos East Senatorial District bye-election, on grounds of certificate falsification.
