The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticised Tanimu Turaki, the newly declared factional Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), over his call for foreign intervention in Nigeria. Turaki had urged foreign powers to step in to protect democracy and stop what he described as a Christian genocide in the country.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, described Turaki’s comments as reckless and unpatriotic. According to the ruling party, the PDP leader’s remarks amount to an invitation for foreign invasion and pose a threat to Nigeria’s national security and sovereignty.
The APC said Turaki, who assumed his role only 72 hours ago following internal disputes within the PDP, appeared desperate, confused, and lacking the capacity to manage the party’s growing internal crisis.
The ruling party noted that Nigerians expected Turaki to focus on uniting the warring factions within the PDP, but instead, his first public action was a call that the APC described as shameless and dangerous.
The statement further recalled that during the PDP’s 16 years in power, despite political tensions and opposition disagreements, there was never a call for foreign intervention in Nigeria’s internal affairs. The APC argued that Turaki’s comments reflect the PDP’s inability to resolve its own internal issues.
The party urged the international community to ignore the call, describing it as a pitiful distraction from the PDP’s struggles with internal democracy. It added that the opposition’s growing desperation has become more obvious.
Morka called on Nigerians to remain supportive of President Bola Tinubu and the APC-led government as it continues efforts to improve national development and stability.
