Some youths of the Iree community in Boripe North Local Development Area of Osun state have set the palace of the Aree of Iree ablaze on Thursday evening.
The angry mob in reaction to the arrest of the Akogun of Iree, Chief Soliu Atoyebi by security officials on Thursday morning, came out in their numbers and set the palace on fire around 7:00 pm in the evening.
These led to the blockage of major roads that enters the town, leaving business owners with no other option than to close their shops and scamper for safety, while residents also locked themselves indoors.
Earlier in the week, the newly inaugurated Governor of the state, Ademola Adeleke issued an executive order to dethrone three traditional rulers, which the Aree of Iree was one of them. The order also stated that the palace should be locked up and taken over by security agents to avoid the breakdown of law and order.
