Anambra INEC Chairman Says State Election Will Hold, Guarantees Maximum Security

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of Anambra has assured the state that the Governorship election will hold on Saturday November 6, as slated.

This was disclosed by the State INEC chairman Mahmood Yakubu, during an Inter Agency Consultative Forum held Yesterday night at the INEC headquarters in Akwa, the State capital.

As part of measures to guarantee the security of the state during and after election, the state Commission for Police and Deputy Chairman of the Inter Agency Consultative Forum, Mr. Echeng Echeng announced that all borders linking Anambra State with other states will totally be locked down on Thursday night.

Meanwhile, the INEC Chairman urged the security agencies to do everything possible to ensure that peace and orderliness is maintained during and after the election.

He further mentioned the need for all candidates and political parties to sign a Peace Accord today in an attempt to ensure peaceful election process.

This signing will hold at stakeholder meeting in the present of the electoral body, the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, other heads of security agencies, chairman of political parties, governorship candidates, member of the civil society groups, traditional rulers, religious leaders and the media respectively.

Meanwhile, CP Echeng stated that vehicles and movement would not be allowed into the state during the period of lockdown emphasising that maximum security would be deployed to identified flashpoints areas.

He also said, “There is enough security to protect lives and property across the state.” As 85 percent of all police assets and personnel are on ground with the deployment of about 125 anti-riot policemen to all 21 local government of the state.

With the arranged security measures, Echeng urged all members of the state to come out to cast their vote for candidate of their own.
