The young man who tragically fell to his death from one of the upper floors of the Cocoa House in Ibadan on Tuesday has been identified as a 22 year old cybersecurity trainee undergoing professional training within the building.

Sources confirmed that the deceased, a graduate of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), was enrolled in a cybersecurity training program when the fatal incident occurred.

His death has sparked concerns over safety protocols in training environments and raised questions about how the incident was handled.

The late trainee, who lived with his mother in the Meridian area of Apata, Ibadan, was buried by his family’s church, the Living Faith Church (Winners Chapel), amidst a wave of grief and unanswered questions.

His father, it was gathered, resides in the United States.

Described by family acquaintances as “humble and respectful,” the young man reportedly came from a well-to-do family.

“He had a car his parents gave him, but you’d never know that by the way he behaved. He was down-to-earth,” a source close to the family shared.

Witnesses say the tragedy was compounded by the mishandling of the aftermath.

“The company said he was rushed to the emergency ward, but he was already dead. What’s worse, the company didn’t contact his mother. A random person who was present at the scene had to call her,” a source familiar with the situation said.

Eyewitnesses at Cocoa House also reported attempts to suppress media coverage of the incident.

“Journalists from 32 FM, which operates within the building, were prevented from taking photos. His body was hastily covered with cloth. We heard it was badly mangled,” said another observer.

In the wake of the tragedy, the victim’s family is said to be considering legal action against the training company.

Allegations of negligence, particularly with regard to workplace safety and the poor communication that followed the incident, are at the heart of their grievances.
