Amotekun Operative Shoots WAEC Candidate, Community Members Protest

Peter Okafor, a 15-year-old West Africa examination council (WAEC) candidate, has been allegedly killed by an operative of the Amotekun around Uncle Joe area of Mokola area of the Ibadan North Local Government Area in Oyo State.

The unfortunate incident happened on Wednesday and and have thrown residents of the community into a state of confusion and chaos, following the teenager’s death.

The victim was said to be preparing to sit for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination on Friday.

According to reports, men of the Nigerian Police Force, Mokola division, Ibadan had tried to take the corpse away but they were stopped by the people.

Speaking about the incident, a visibly shocked resident said, “I still ate with him yesterday night I am still shocked about what has happened to him, as all he was focused on was his WAEC examinations”

“It is not clear why the Amotekun guy shot him. Maybe it was an accidental discharge, we don’t know.”

Another eye witness said, “I don’t know what or why immediately the boy saw the Amotekun operatives patrolling, he took to his heels to escape the area and the operative shot him in the head and died instantly”

Meanwhile, crises have rocked the Mokola area of Ibadan since the incident on Wednesday. Many had come out in numbers to protest the incessant killing of youths by Amotekun operatives.
