A new governing council for the Lagos State University (LASU) will be announced by the Lagos State Government this weekend.
This development comes amid controversies over the appointment of the 9th substantive Vice-Chancellor for the state-owned institution after two unsuccessful attempts.
According to Premium Times, the new governing council, save for any last-minute change, will be led by a former accountant general of the state, Davies Sunmoni. The erstwhile 13 members of the former council will be returned.
Quoting a highly-placed sourced, the newspaper reported that the new council members will have Mr Sunmoni as the chairman, with all the 13 other members of the dissolved council including the chief executive officer of the mobile telecommunication giant, MTN, Karl Toriola, as members.
The other members are Shafiudeen Amuwo, Adenike Yomi-Faseun, Adetugbobo Hakeem, Sule Tolani, Folasade Adesoye, Kunle Soname, Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, and Adebayo Akinsanya.
Others are Mojisola Tolagbe Taiwo, Morenike Williams, Anuoluwapo Esho and Foluke Abdul-Razaq.
Recall Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu had ordered the immediate dissolution of the LASU governing council and removal of the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Prof. Adebayo Ninalowo over “flagrant contravention of extant laws, breach of due process” in relation to the selection process of a new Vice-Chancellor.
The decision followed the recommendations in the 60-page report submitted by the special visitation panel chaired by former VC of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Prof. Bamitale Omole.
The registrar, Olayinka Amuni, was also asked to proceed on leave and be replaced by an acting registrar will oversee the new exercise.
