The Algerian football federation is set to challenge Nigeria and Benin for the hosting rights of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after Guinea was stripped by Caf due to political issues facing the country and lack of quality infrastructure and facilities.
During his visit to Conakry, Caf president Patrice Motsepe disclosed that the West Africans will no longer host the competition, citing that the poor state of their infrastructure and facilities is not ready to host a world-class competition.
Following the disqualification of Guinea, the North Africans have expressed their desire to host the biennial African showpiece.
Algerian Minister of Youth and Sports, Abderrazak Sebgag told the APS: “It’s time for Algeria to organise major events. We are going to present a good file to organise the Africa Cup of Nations 2025.”
In the same vein, Algeria Football Federation boss Zefizef Djahid was quoted by Kingfut: “Algeria has all the capabilities to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.”
In July, former Nigeria Football Federation president Amaju Pinnick revealed that the country and Benin Republic are likely to co-host the competition, stating that Caf would revoke Guinea’s rights.
With this new development, the north africans giant will battle with west africans duo of Nigeria and Benin republic for the Africa cup of Nations 2025 hosting rights.
Meanwhile, Morocco is expected to submit a bid to host the competition in the coming days.
