Alaafin’s Convoy Attacked at Igbo-Ora, Disrupts World Twins Festival

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade’s convoy has been reportedly attacked in Igbo-Ora, Oyo State during world twin festival held on Saturday 11th October, 2025.

A Lagos-based photographer, known as Dewunmi Lagos, has accused some individuals of attacking the convoy of the Alaafin of Oyo during yesterday’s World Twins Festival, abruptly ending the event.

The statement, shared via social media and credited to Tosin Superson Olushola, read: “At the world twin festival yesterday, some people attacked the convoy of Alaafin and that ended the event very quickly. Our people really need to respect traditional institution. Konibaje.”

The festival hosted in Igbo‑Ora, Oyo State which is meant to celebrate twin heritage and attract cultural tourism. Its official page describes the event as a platform for promoting “international twinning heritage as a form of creative culture.”

As of now, no official confirmation has emerged from state security or palace spokesmen regarding the claimed attack. It remains unclear who targeted the convoy, the motive behind it, or whether there were injuries or property damage.

Supporters of the Alaafin’s institution and cultural stakeholders have expressed outrage.

Social media users echoed Dewunmi’s call for greater respect toward traditional authorities, saying such aggression undermines centuries of cultural heritage and peace.

Authorities in Oyo State are yet to respond publicly to the incident or begin any investigation.
