Akpabio Denies Saying Lawmakers Got 60% Of NDDC Contracts
Minister of Niger Delta, Senator Godswill Akpabio has denied saying 60% of contracts of the Niger Delta Development Commission were awarded to lawmakers of the National Assembly.
Akpabio in a letter sent to the House of Representatives and read on the floor during plenary session on Thursday disclosed that the only time he mentioned 60% when was he was answering a question from a member of the House Committee on NDDC.
The Minister said that the 60% statement was in his response for the appointment of a Medical Doctor as the Director of Projects at NDDC as he said 60% of projects at the Commission were medical related and as such, a professional in the field of Medicine was qualified for the position.
The House had earlier today instituted a case of perjury and civil defamation against the Minister following his comments on Monday that lawmakers were the most beneficiaries of sleazy contracts awarded by the NDDC.
