Super Eagles veteran Ahmed Musa has voiced his support for the Nigerian national team after they were stranded in Libya for over 12 hours at Al Abraq International Airport.

The team was left without food, water, or transportation ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Libya, leading the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to announce their withdrawal from the match.

In a show of solidarity, Musa took to social media to express his disappointment and urged the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to intervene. “I’m extremely disappointed by the unjust treatment of the Super Eagles, the NFF officials, as well as dignitaries in Libya.

“This is not sportsmanship, and I want the football governing body, @CAF_Online to intervene and investigate this incident. I stand with the players in this difficult time,” Musa wrote, concluding with symbols of support and unity.

Musa’s statement comes after the NFF shared their frustration on their Instagram handle, announcing that the team had resolved not to play the AFCON qualifier. “Players have resolved not to play the match any longer as NFF officials are making plans to fly the team back home,” the statement read.

The ordeal began when the Super Eagles’ chartered flight was diverted to Al Abraq International Airport, leaving the team stranded without assistance from the Libyan Football Federation (LFF).

Captain William Troost-Ekong and striker Victor Boniface were among the players who publicly condemned the situation, citing safety concerns and the lack of basic necessities.
