Agidigbo FM Refutes Reports of Oriyomi Hamzat and Ooni’s Ex-Wife Naomi’s Release from Prison

The management of Agidigbo FM has dismissed reports suggesting the release of its chairman, Oriyomi Hamzat; Naomi Silekunola, the estranged wife of the Ooni of Ife; and Abdullahi Mfasasi, the Principal of Islamic High School, from prison custody.

In a statement shared on Saturday via the Agidigbo 88.7 Jos branch Facebook page, the management described the reports as “fake news” and called on the public to disregard them. It also issued a warning to those disseminating false information to desist from such acts.

“The management of Agidigbo FM categorically states that reports claiming the release of our chairman, Oriyomi Hamzat; ex-queen Naomi Silekunola; and the principal, Abdullahi Mfasasi, are untrue. We urge the public to disregard these rumors and warn against the spread of fake news,” the statement read.

Naomi Silekunola has reportedly been on a hunger strike while detained at Agodi prison, following a stampede that claimed the lives of 35 people during an event she organized in Ibadan, Oyo State. According to her mother, Mrs. Funmilayo Ogunseyi, Naomi has been in poor health and is deeply distressed over the tragedy.

“She is heartbroken over the loss of those children. Naomi has always cared for children, single mothers, widows, and the elderly. Her intentions were pure, and this incident has left her in pain,” Ogunseyi said in an interview, recounting her visit to the prison.

Hamzat and Mfasasi were arraigned on December 24 before a Magistrate Court in Ibadan and subsequently remanded in custody
