As recently sworn in Local Government Chairmen in Lagos count down to their 100 days in office, the elected Chairman of Agege Local Government; Alhaji Tunde Azeez better known as Alhaji Disco has resigned from office.
Alhaji Disco who went on medical leave days after he was sworn in on July 27, 2025 was replaced by Obasa’s son, Ganiu acting in his place as interim.
His resignation letter was formally submitted to the Agege Legislative Council and considered during a plenary session presided over by the Leader of the House, Hon. Adeshina Haruna.
According to information from the council, Azeez’s decision to step down followed months of health-related difficulties that limited his engagement in official activities. The legislative arm deliberated on the letter and passed a resolution accepting the resignation, which took immediate effect.
Councillors at the session acknowledged his period of service and emphasized the need for leadership stability within the local government.
Following the acceptance of his resignation, the council unanimously approved Hon. AbdulGaniyu Vinod Obasa, who had been serving as Vice Chairman, as the substantive Chairman of Agege Local Government. Obasa is expected to oversee the council’s affairs for the remainder of the tenure.
The swift transition of power has drawn attention within the council area, with some residents and political watchers noting the speed of the process and its possible implications for local governance.
As newly sworn-in local government chairmen in Lagos State approach their first 100 days in office, Azeez’s exit stands out as one of the earliest resignations among the current set of council bosses.
Azeez, who reportedly went on medical leave shortly after being sworn in on July 27, had remained largely absent from public functions and council activities before formally tendering his resignation.
