Dr Yusuf Tanko Sununu, the minister for humanitarian affairs has formally resigned from president Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, bringing an end to an era many described as impactful.

Sources disclosed that the former lawmaker submitted his resignation letter to the presidency on Monday in compliance with the president earlier directive for any cabinet members seeking elective position to resign before March 31, 2026.

Sununu had previously served as a lawmaker in the green chamber of the national Assembly having represented Yauri/Shanga/Ngaski federal Constituency before appointed as the education minister for state in 2023 before cabinet reshuffle as humanitarian affairs minister.

This time, he’s seeking to return to the national Assembly to represent Kebbi south senatorial district.

His resignation is seen as part of a major wave in political realignment as many appointees resigned from their position seeking elective post in their state.
