The immediate past Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio has clinched the ticket of the All Progressives Congress to contest for the Akwa Ibom North-West senatorial seat.
It would be recalled that Akpabio, a former governor, relinquished his presidential bid at the recently concluded special convention of the ruling party.
He was the first aspirant to step down to back the candidacy of the APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu who eventually emerged as the presidential flagbearer.
On Thursday, the APC held a rerun primary for
Akwa Ibom North-West senatorial district, following allegations of irregularities that characterized the first exercise won by a former Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), Udom Ekpoudom.
Akpabio, who served in the Senate between 2015 and 2019, emerged victorious in the rerun.
Reacting to his victory, the former minister thanked the people of Akwa Ibom North West senatorial district for finding him worthy of another opportunity to represent them in the upper legislative chamber.
