After several political attempts and years of grassroots mobilization, Prince Lanre Sanusi has emerged victorious as the newly elected Executive Chairman of Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area in Lagos State.
Results from the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) show that Sanusi, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), won overwhelmingly with 24,926 votes, defeating Labour Party’s Seyi Ipinlaye, who garnered just 1,962 votes.
The election, which attracted low voter turnout but proceeded peacefully across more than 13,000 polling units, saw the APC dominate both chairmanship and councillorship seats across Lagos State.
His political trajectory began as far back as 1999, when he served as a polling agent for the Alliance for Democracy (AD) and worked on the successful campaign of then-governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Over the years, he played vital roles in building the party’s base in Ifelodun LCDA and later in Amuwo Odofin, gaining a reputation as a dependable grassroots mobilizer.
Sanusi first declared interest in elective office in 2018, vying for the Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency seat under the APC. Though widely endorsed, he stepped down in 2019 in the interest of party unity. He returned in 2022, won the party’s primary convincingly, but was not fielded in the general election.
In 2025, he shifted his focus to the grassroots. His chairmanship ambition gained momentum after emerging as a consensus candidate during the APC screening process, scoring over 80% and beating over 20 other aspirants.
In a statement released following his win in the just-concluded July 12 local government elections, Sanusi expressed profound gratitude to residents for their votes, prayers, and unwavering support.
“Your votes, prayers, and encouragement brought us this victory,” he stated.
“Now, it’s time to deliver real results.”
Sanusi, who has long been active in Amuwo Odofin politics, promised a new era of inclusive and people-focused leadership, pledging development that reaches all corners of the community.
His victory marks a significant political milestone, ending years of effort to secure the seat.
Many observers see his win as a reflection of both sustained perseverance and strong public backing.
“Let’s make history together,” Sanusi said, vowing to serve with integrity and purpose.
Residents and stakeholders in Amuwo Odofin are now looking forward to the implementation of his campaign promises and the tangible transformation of local governance under his leadership.
