After long deliberations, ASUU to begin warning strike on Valentine’s Day

To press home its demands to the Federal Government, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has resolved to embark on a warning strike which commences on Monday, February 14.

The union came to this resolution following serious deliberations at a series of marathon meetings of its National Executive Council (NEC) which commenced on Saturday and dragged into the early hours of Monday.

It was gathered that the members of the NEC voted to embark on the industrial action. The one-month strike, according to the union, is to allow the Federal Government do the needful, failure to which the union would go on an indefinite strike.

ASUU is expected to formally announce the resolutions of the two-day meeting in a press conference on Monday.

Before now, the union had had a long-standing face-off with the Federal Government over a number of demands which include the payment of Earned Academic Allowance, revitalization fund, the replacement of the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System, IPPIS, with the University Transparency and Accountability System UTAS, among others.
