After heated debates, ASUU extends strike again

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has again extended its ongoing strike which has reached its 196th day.

It was gathered that decision was reached at the union’s National Executive Council held in Abuja on Monday morning.

The development was said to have followed a series of heated debates among members of the NEC who settled for the extension of the industrial action.

It would be recalled that on August 1, ASUU announced a four-week extension of the six-month strike, citing the failure of the Nigerian government to fulfill its promises and heed the call.

Some of the union’s demands include the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement, funding for the revitalisation of tertiary institutions, payment of outstanding academic allowances, and particularly the controversy surrounding the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).
