Amid controversies surrounding the decision to reopen the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge Toll Plaza, the Lekki Concession Company (LCC) has announced April 1st, 2022 as the scheduled date for lifting the 18-month tolling suspension.
According to the Nation, LCC disclosed that tolling activities will commence on April 1 but commuters plying through the route will do so free of charge until April 15.
This development was contained in an advertorial placed in The Nation on Monday by the LCC.
The LCC’s Managing Director, Yomi Omomuwasan said that the resumption of operations was necessary due to consultations made with key stakeholders including Lagos State Government, resident associations, traditional rulers, community leaders and others.
Recall that operations at the toll plaza were suspended as a result of the shooting of protesters on October 20, 2020.
In February 2021, the Lagos State Judicial panel which was established by the Lagos State Government to probe brutality and high-handedness of the disbanded special anti-robbery squad (SARS) had approved the reopening of the Lekki tollgate, The Cable reported.
At the time, the verdict to reopen the Lekki Tollgate was made possible after 5 membera out of a 9-member panel, voted to return the control of the tollgate to the Lekki Concession Company (LCC), the operators, on February 6, 2021.
