Nigerian music act, Wande Coal turns 40 today, marking an important personal milestone as fans and industry insiders reflect on a career that’s firmly cemented him among Afrobeats royalty.

Born Oluwatobi Wande Ojosipe on October 18, 1985, on Lagos Island, Wande’s journey from choir boy to chart‑topping singer and songwriter spans nearly two decades.

His breakthrough came after joining Don Jazzy’s Mo’ Hits Records in the late 2000s, and his debut solo album Mushin 2 Mo’Hits became a landmark for Nigerian pop music.

Over the years, hits like Ololufe, Iskaba, and Again underscored his blend of highlife, R&B and Afrobeats and his influence shows no signs of fading.

Now 40, Wande has entered what many in the music scene are calling his “legacy era.”

His 2023 release Legend or No Legend was marketed as a reaffirmation of his place at the top table of African music.
