Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has dismissed reports claiming he resigned from the Federal Executive Council, describing the information as false and misleading.
The denial followed widespread speculation on Tuesday that the minister had stepped down to pursue a governorship ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Reacting to the development, Adelabu’s media aide, Bolaji Tunji in a WhatsApp group chat, said the reports were entirely untrue, stressing that the minister remains in office.
“The news of the minister’s resignation is fake. There is no truth to it,” Tunji said, adding that a purported resignation letter circulating online had been clearly marked “fake news.”
The clarification puts to rest earlier claims that Adelabu had joined a growing list of political appointees expected to resign in line with a directive requiring cabinet members with electoral ambitions to vacate their positions ahead of party primaries.
Although the minister has been linked to a possible return to the Oyo State governorship race, his camp maintains that no resignation has taken place and that his immediate focus remains on addressing challenges in Nigeria’s power sector.
The controversy highlights the heightened political atmosphere ahead of the 2027 elections, with several ministers speculated to be weighing their political future even as they continue in office.
For now, Adelabu has urged the public to disregard the reports, reaffirming his commitment to his current role in the administration.
