The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has confirmed that its National President-elect, Mr. Abubakar Yakubu, was involved in a tragic road accident in Lagos on Tuesday, December 9, which resulted in the death of a child and left the child’s mother injured.
According to an official statement signed by AGN President, Dr. Ejezie Emeka Rollas, the accident occurred following an unexpected mechanical brake failure that caused Mr. Yakubu’s vehicle to collide with the victims. The injured mother is currently receiving medical treatment.
The Guild said Mr. Yakubu immediately cooperated with law enforcement and emergency responders at the scene, noting that he remains physically unharmed but emotionally devastated by the incident.
AGN leadership has since visited the bereaved family to offer condolences and support. The Guild added that the matter has been resolved amicably with the family, describing their response as “remarkably gracious” despite their loss.
“Mr. Yakubu expresses profound sorrow and extends heartfelt prayers for the soul of the departed child and the full recovery of the injured mother,” the statement read.
The Guild urged members of the public to avoid speculation, stressing that the incident was a tragic accident with no intentional wrongdoing. It also called for prayers, compassion and restraint during the sensitive period.
“Accidents are painful reminders of life’s fragility,” the AGN said, adding that it remains committed to promoting a culture of care and responsibility within the industry.
The Guild appealed for privacy for all parties as they continue to heal from the tragedy.
