Stella Nwadigbo, a 45-year old teacher, from Christ-Mitots International School in Ikorodu, has been remanded in custody after being charged with assaulting a 3-year-old student.

The teacher was arrested after a disturbing viral video emerged showing her physically punishing the child for struggling to write numbers 16 and 61 during a lesson.

The incident, which occurred in Ikorodu Local Government Area, has drawn widespread condemnation after it was shared on social media.

Following the video’s circulation,Nwadigbo was arrested by the Family Support Unit of the Ikorodu Police Division on Wednesday. She was subsequently arraigned in a Magistrate Court in Ogba on Thursday and ordered to remain in Kirikiri Correctional Facility until her next hearing on February 18, 2025.

According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the victim, Abayomi Micheal, was promptly taken to a medical facility for evaluation and care.

The police have emphasized that the case is being treated with the utmost seriousness, with investigations continuing under the Gender Unit at the Command Headquarters.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olanrewaju Ishola, commended the public for quickly reporting the case and assured that the police are committed to bringing justice for the child and upholding the rights of students in schools across the state.
