Abuja Police Arrest, Detain, Former Education Minister, Others
Fresh reports has it that officers attached to the FCT Police Command moments ago placed former Education Minister, Dr Oby Ezekwesili and members of the Bring Back Our Girls Group (BBOG) under arrest at the Unity Fountain, Abuja.
BlackBox Nigeria gathered that the BBOG protesters led by Dr Ezekwesili were earlier held hostage at the Fountain before being taken to a Station. In a video sighted by BBN, the protesters were locked in a human barricade formed by conventional Police officers.
According to Dr Ezekwesili, the BBOG planned to match to Aso Rock Villa to demand the return of the Chibok girls kidnapped by terrorist group, boko haram. The group’s protest was disrupted by the Police who said, “The order was from above.” After the illegal detention at the Unity Fountain, they were later taken to the FCT Police Command where the Police Commissioner later released them.
The former Education Minister in a thread of tweets disclosed that herself and members of the BBOG group were arrested, detained and later freed without them knowing the reason for the Police action.
However, she has added that the Group will not be deterred by the Police action but will on Wednesday, January 24th proceed with it’s protest and march to Villa.
The Bring Back Our Girls Group has been active after the April 14th, 2014 abduction of Secondary School Girls from the Chibok Community in Borno State, North East Nigeria. The Group has been at the forefront of agitation putting the Federal Government on it’s toes on the safe rescue of the kidnapped girls from the hands of the terrorist group.
