- Drums support for larger polls in the party
The Lagos-East Senatorial Representative, Tokunbo Abiru, has lauded All Progressives Congress local government and ward chairmen in Lagos East senatorial district for contributing immensely to the success of the Dec 5th bye-elections, Blackbox Nigeria reports.
The Senator, who thanked the chairmen in a meeting held at his constituency office in Ikorodu on Saturday, however, noted that more efforts will be required in achieving success at the party’s general level.
“I want to appreciate the salutary contributions made by everyone, coupled with the backlash of the #ENDSARS protest we still came out with resounding success.
“When you compare the total votes cast, with that of the total registered voters, it looks dismal. According to INEC’s record, the total votes cast were 100, 005 plus, when you compare this with the total registered voters, you will have 8%, and this underscores the point that the turnout was indeed low.
“However, INEC confirmed that typical turnout of bye-elections is usually 4%, which implies 8% is salutary, and this is as a result of our collective efforts.
“This also tells us as a group and as a party, that there is still a lot to be done. At this point, we can’t afford to be complacent, but work harder to improve the larger poll, creating more awareness and making the people to be actively engaged with the party,” said the former Polaris Bank CEO.
Tokunbo Abiru become the Senator representing Lagos-East following the death of Senator Adebayo Sikiru Osinowo who died from complications suspected to be coronavirus.
