Some of the abducted passengers of the attacked Abuja-Kaduna train have regained their freedom after 74 days in captivity.
On March 28, suspected terrorists bombed a section of a Kaduna-bound train and opened fire on passengers. About nine persons were confirmed dead during the attack, while over 60 were abducted.
According to Daily Trust, about 11 captives — six females and five males — were released on Saturday after intense negotiations.
Tukur Mamu, who served as a mediator, was said to have confirmed the development,
“It was expected initially that all the abducted women will be released in the first batch while negotiations for the release of the remaining victims will continue but the abductors had cut down the number of women they initially agreed to release because the Nigerian Government had demanded that they include those with life threatening injuries among the released,” he was quoted to have said.
On Wednesday, two of the abducted passengers were released after intensive negotiations between their family and the abductors. The spokesman for the Kaduna State Police Command, Mohammed Jalige also confirmed the release.
