Nigerian songstress Yemi Alade realized her dream as she mesmerized the audience during the opening ceremony of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
In a captivating video shared by X user @Winco_3 on Saturday evening, Yemi Alade took center stage, delivering a powerful rendition of the 2023 AFCON theme song.
The accomplished singer had eagerly anticipated this moment, expressing her excitement on Thursday and acknowledging the event as a “dream come true.” Yemi Alade shared her heartfelt journey, revealing her desire to perform at football ceremonies since 2016.
In her X post, she reflected, “I cannot stress enough the importance of prayer and speaking into existence your heart’s desires. Since 2016, I have aspired to perform at the stadium for football ceremonies surrounded by hundreds of dancers and millions of people.”
Yemi Alade acknowledged the persistence of calls over the years but noted that none had materialized until now. She shared insights into her patience and trust in her team’s efforts, even during moments of doubt.
“After 7 years, I’m performing at AFCON. It’s indeed an honor and a dream come true. It’s just the beginning! God bless my team,” she expressed with gratitude.
The opening ceremony, taking place at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan, also sets the stage for the opening match between the Les Elephants of Ivory Coast and three-time participant Guinea Bissau. Yemi Alade’s performance added a memorable and celebratory touch to the commencement of this prestigious African football event.
