76 Days After, President Buhari still Missing in Action
- Nigerians worried over President’s absence
- Critical Days ahead for Nigeria
Today makes it the 76th day since President Muhammadu Buhari unceremoniously departed Nigeria to the UK to seek medical attention. Buhari had earlier in January proceeded to the sane UK for the same reason spending 49 days.
Buhari left Nigeria on the night of Sunday May 7 after a brief meeting with Ag. President Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President Bukola Saraki and the House of Representatives Speaker, Aminu Dogara. This was shortly after he met with the newly released 82 Chibok girls whose freedom had just been made possible at the time.

Just yesterday, the President of Guinea, Alpha Conde ordered 24 hours prayers for the Nigerian leader asking all Muslims in the country to pray for the good health of Buhari. However back home, not many believe spiritual healing is what the retired general requires.
“Nigerians are generally pensive at this moment and they wonder why the president’s handlers aren’t disclosing the President’s health status. Atleast we deserve to know since we voted him into office”, a Nigerian who would rather remain anonymous disclosed to BlackBox Nigeria in a chat.
A little over a week ago, Prof. Osinbajo made a quick dash to the UK to have a private meeting with the President but his claim that Buhari is hale and hearty has been variously bashed with controversial Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose threatening to release “11 damaging pictures” to prove how much Buhari’s health has deteriorated.

Although the presidency and the ruling party, the APC claim President Buhari is fine and will soon return to office, the constitution might not be in their favour as a continued absence of Present Buhari might mean he would be declared incapacitated and therefore unfit for continuous stay in office. This is the position of many who are also of the opinion that a repeat of the unfortunate 2010 saga involving late President Yar’Adua might be at hand.
