The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), has reaffirm its readiness to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure safety, while making use of alternative means of transportation to cushion the effect commuters would face during the partial closure of the third mainland bridge.
Director General/CEO LASEMA, Doctor Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, made this known when the emergency team coupled with the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), and the Safety Commission conducted a collective inspection of strategic jetties and terminal to monitor safety procedures.
Osanyintolu, told Blackbox Nigeria that the collaboration between LASEMA and other Agencies involved in the Inspection of Jetties, was a necessary move to ensure implementation of Safety Protocols ahead of Friday’s partial closure of the 3rd Mainland Bridge.
Speaking during the Inspection of the Jetties at the CMS terminal, Ebute-Ero Marina, both on Lagos Island and Bariga Waterfront Jetty, in Ilaje area of Bariga, the LASEMA Director-General stated that the joint inspection was aimed at deploying its highly trained and efficient staff, backed by the maximal application of its sophisticated equipment, to ensure all-round safety of Lagosians on land and water during the period of partial closure of the Bridge.
Stressing that all roads leading to the jetties have been repaired, Osanyintolu reels out stringent measures, reiterating that night journeys would not be permitted, just as he assures of boat operators commitment to maintain stipulated capacity, and ensure they have the mandatory Life Buoys as part of necessary safety measures.
