In a bold step toward addressing educational inequality in underserved communities, the Ikorodu Diamond Leo Club, under the leadership of President Leo Abdulrahaman Ajasa, has launched a humanitarian initiative tagged “Education Drive”,aimed at equipping young learners with essential school materials.

The project, which forms part of the club’s Legacy Project for the 2024/2025 Lions Service Year, directly impacted 371 pupils across Jamatul Islamiyyah Primary School and Salvation Army Primary School, both located in the Ikorodu area of Lagos.

At both schools, the pupils received a range of basic educational supplies, including exercise books, pens, pencils, rulers, erasers, and sharpeners.

Kindergarten and nursery pupils also benefited from additional care packages that included socks, snacks, and writing tools.

Special needs students were not left out, reflecting the club’s commitment to inclusive service.

The initiative was made possible through community partnerships and generous support from donors — most notably, Mr. Basheer Tosin Ashafa, who was lauded for his role in funding a significant portion of the project.

Speaking during the outreach, Leo Ajasa described the project as a promise fulfilled and a call to action for more support for public education.

“Too many children still go to school without the basic tools for learning. Through this drive, we are not just giving out materials, we are giving them hope and encouraging them to dream big,” Ajasa said.

He urged the pupils to take their studies seriously, be proud ambassadors of Ikorodu, and always remember the value of giving back to their communities.

With just days to the end of his tenure, Ajasa used the opportunity to thank his fellow Leos, Lions, and donors for their unwavering support, describing the club’s journey over the year as impactful and inspiring.

Leo Keji Lawal, the club’s Membership Director, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing that the Education Drive aligns with the core mission of Lions Clubs International.

“This project is not just about giving school supplies. It’s about igniting the power of community service in young people and showing them that small acts of kindness can change lives,” she said.

The Education Drive adds to a series of initiatives by the Ikorodu Diamond Leo Club aimed at addressing critical social needs, from health to education and youth empowerment.

As the baton of leadership prepares to change hands, members say the club’s legacy of impact will remain a beacon for community-driven service.
