‘365 Days As A Blogger’ By Abass Latifat Olamide

It feels like yesterday when I began my adventure as a reporter for BlackBox Nigeria. “A sip of life” was born. It was a moment full of excitement, anxiety, anticipation, all sorts of emotions mixed together.

On November 9, 2019, I was offered an internship to work with BlackBoxNigeria. I have never been that wowed; this was a lifetime opportunity and I vowed to learn as fast as I can on the job, and never to misuse the opportunity.

Success is a very subjective word in the world of blogging, I will not measure it with statistics like page views, session time, subscriptions or Google Ads even though it mattered to the business. For me, marking one year of blogging itself is a success. I cannot believe how much I have learned in the last one year. When I started, I had zero ideas about what blogging entails. I got a few trainings from my boss and it all began from there. Remember I said I vowed to be a fast learner, lol.

Blogging is not only about content writing, it is also about making good use of resources available on the internet. Best hack to improve yourself as a blogger? Keep on learning and never stop learning.

Every blogger has their strengths and weaknesses. My advice to young lads – like myself (I’m actually very young, lol) – who has passion for blogging or other newbies in this field is to chase what they want for themselves, with all sense of intentionality. I know this might sound cliché but there is nothing really stopping you if you’re truly passionate about something. Let no one tell you otherwise. Do your thing!

Few facts about myself. I am an 100 level student of the prestigious Lagos State University with a scholarship from Mr Jimoh Hamzat (Ohun Ikorodu). I come from a family that expects nothing more than a big success from me. Since childhood, I have always dreamt of working with media companies. Any which way, you can say I’m still very much on track.

Quick one: never stop dreaming and chasing your dreams. The biggest enemy to starting something new is self doubt, so never allow self-doubt to hinder your way to your passion. Be true to yourself at all times, just be you! Take inspiration from others but do not try to copy anyone, rather focus on your strength.

I’m ending this piece with a big thank you to everyone that has contributed to my success. Trust me, this couldn’t have been possible without your support. Special shout out to the brain behind BlackBox Nigeria, my amiable boss, Sulaimon Mojeed-Sanni (SM-S). I wouldn’t have been here without you, sir. Many thanks for believing in me, for being patient and supportive.
